History
Grisham/Trentham Lecture
Since
1987 the Grisham/Trentham Lecture Series has brought world
class designers and business leaders to the Auburn campus
to share their insights, experiences, and successes with students,
faculty, and guests. Initiated by Professor Gary Trentham
of the Department of Consumer Affairs, Auburn University,
and supported through an endowment established in 1989 by
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Grisham, Huntsville, AL, the lecture
series has expanded the horizons of many Auburn students,
inspiring them to reach for the stars to accomplish their
dreams of internships and career placements.
Mrs. Betty Grisham is an artist, textile designer,
and entrepreneur. She and her late husband, Charles, have
been strong supporters of the design program in the Department
of Consumer Affairs. Now retired, some of Betty’s designs
were featured at the 2004 Grisham/Trentham Lecture. These
designs reflect Betty’s life as an "expression
of a soul full of color."
Professor Gary Trentham, artist, textile designer,
and "favorite teacher" for hundreds of students,
retired from the Department of Consumer Affairs, Auburn University
in 1995. Passionate about expanding the horizons of his students,
Professor Trentham was instrumental both in bringing world-class
fashion/design authorities to campus and in encouraging his
students to move out and experience the world for their internships
and careers.
