Apparel Merchandising, Design and Textiles Position
Department of Consumer Affairs
College of Human Sciences, Auburn University

Position: Assistant/Associate/Full Professor. Tenure track, nine month appointment. Approximately 400 students in program. Summer funding opportunities for teaching or research may be possible.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach lecture and/or studio courses in one or more of the following areas: aesthetics, apparel design and technology, product development, textile science and product evaluation, merchandising/retailing, global sourcing, or consumer behavior.
  • Actively pursue a program of scholarly research and/or creative work and grantsmanship.
  • Actively participate in curriculum development and evaluation.
  • Assume an active role in graduate student recruitment, teaching, and mentoring.
  • Participate in undergraduate and graduate student advising.
  • Provide service to the department, college, and university.
  • Be actively involved with industry and relevant professional associations.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in related field required. Will consider ABD if degree is completed within one year from effective date of appointment.
  • The candidate accepted for the position must be able to meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States and be able to communicate effectively in English.
  • Desired: Previous experience in teaching including distance education, research, and/or industry; a documented record of grantsmanship.

The Program:

The Department offers a four-year Bachelor of Science degree in Apparel Merchandising, Design and Production Management with options in Apparel Merchandising and in Product Design and Production Management. The Program is endorsed by the AAFA Professional Leadership Council. The Department offers a Master of Science degree in Consumer Affairs and an Interdepartmental Doctor of Philosophy degree in Integrated Textile and Apparel Science. A CIDA accredited Bachelor of Science degree in Interior Design is also offered.

Start Date: January 1, 2008 or August 16, 2008
