Master of Science in Consumer Affairs – Apparel and Interiors (MS-CAHS)
The M.S. in Consumer Affairs-Apparel and Interiors is a multidisiciplinary degree with a strong focus on integration of information for application in a dynamic, rapidly changing global environment. The program builds upon root disciplines such as history, economics, art, psychology, sociology, anthropology, mathematics, chemistry, physics, and engineering. These bases of knowledge are applied to problems in the design, production and marketing of textile and apparel products for carefully identified consumer markets; international production and trade in textiles and apparel; and interior design.
The Thesis Option requires a minimum of 30 semester hours of graduate level course work; the Non-Thesis Option requires a minimum of 36 semester hours of graduate level course work. The course requirements for both the Thesis and Non-Thesis Option include:
CAHS 7050 Research Methods in Textile and Consumer Sciences (3)
CAHS 7950 Seminar (1)
STAT xxxx Statistics (3) (Graduate level statistics; specific course to be chosen as appropriate to research focus.)
Thesis Option students must take a minimum of 4-6 hours of CAHS 7990 Research and Thesis within the 30 hour minimum required for the M.S. degree and must pass a final oral defense of the thesis.
Non-Thesis Option students must take CAHS 7980 Graduate Projects (3) and pass a comprehensive written examination over major course work.
Students in the M.S. in Consumer Affairs-Apparel or Interiors select at least 12 semester hours of Consumer Affairs courses from one of the focus areas listed below:

# Design and Product Development
# Forecasting and Trend Analysis
# Interior Design
# International Production and Trade
# Marketing and Retail Management
Remaining courses may be selected from Consumer Affairs or from other departmental course offerings. Selection of courses is done in consultation with the advisor and is subject to advisory committee approval of the Plan of Study.
