Officers from six home child care provider associations met on February 8, 2003, at Auburn University to discuss the benefits and possibilities of a statewide association.

Auburn University's Family Child Care Partnership (FCCP) hosted this meeting through the support of Alabama Department of Human Resources.

The purpose of the meeting was to determine what the child care providers of Alabama would want, need, and expect from a statewide association. Meeting attendees formed an Advisory Board and discussed the benefits and challenges of forming and developing an association. The board agreed that they wanted to represent the entire state, be a strong, professional, positive image of family childcare, and increase communication among providers and with state leaders.

The first course of action is to compile a contact list of all local associations and their key officers throughout the state. These individuals will be invited to attend regional planning sessions to be scheduled for mid-spring.
