Graduate Opportunities

     CHS@AU offers exciting graduate program opportunities at the M.S. and Ph.D. levels in all of its departments. Specific admission policies, degree requirements, and information on financial assistance are available directly from the Graduate Program Officer in your department of interest.      The Department of Consumer Affairs offers graduate instruction leading to the Master of Science degree with focus areas in apparel, interiors, and textiles and the Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Integrated Textile and Apparel Science (offered jointly with the Department of Textile Engineering). Graduate study emphasizes the integration of basic and applied knowledge from multiple fields to enhance professional skills. Career paths include textile and apparel product development and design, production management, quality control, retail management, merchandising in textile and apparel retail or design firms, design of interior space, and college teaching and research.

     The Department of Human Development and Family Studies offers graduate instruction leading to the Master of Science degree with concentrations in child development, family studies, and marriage and family therapy, as well as the Doctor of Philosophy with a focus on interpersonal competence and relationship dynamics within the context of the family. Graduate study emphasizes the integration of knowledge from various fields for the purpose of understanding and developing professional skills. Graduates pursue careers in college teaching and research, teaching and supervision in programs for young children, parent education, marriage and family therapy, community service, Cooperative Extension, government, business, and industry.

     The Department of Nutrition and Food Science offers graduate instruction leading to the Master of Science and the Doctor of Philosophy degrees with emphasis in food science, nutrition, or hotel and restaurant management. The combination of these respective areas within a single department facilitates integrative studies addressing normal and clinical nutrition, food and health issues, food safety and technology, food service, and hospitality management. Graduate study emphasizes the integration of knowledge from various fields for the purpose of understanding and developing professional skills for careers in higher education, government, business, as well as the healthcare and hospitality industries.
