The foundation for a person’s growth, learning, and health across the life cycle is laid during the earliest years of life. Thus, my teaching, research, and outreach activities have focused on the competencies adults bring to their roles as parents, teachers, and caregivers of children during their first five years.
Socially and emotionally competent adults with a well-founded knowledge of child development are better able to create healthy contexts for learning and development that young children experience as safe, responsive, and enriching. Accordingly, I develop and evaluate research-based programs designed to provide education and training to parents, child care providers, and other early childhood educators.
