1. Director, AU Early Learning Center
POSITION: Director, AU Early Learning Center, Department of Human Development and Family Studies, part-time to full-time, nine-month continuing non-tenure track, effective 8/16/2008. GENERAL INFORMATION: The Department of Human Development and Family Studies includes 18 faculty and 8 professional tracks at the undergraduate level, a Master of Science program with degree options in Human Development and Family Studies and Marriage and Family Therapy, and a Ph.D. program in Human Development and Family Studies.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Master’s degree in Child Development/Early Childhood; recent experience working with children in a developmentally appropriate preschool setting; demonstrated skills in the development and implementation of a sound and creative multicultural educational program for preschool children; experience in the development of parent involvement programs; supervision experience; theoretical and substantive knowledge of current child development/child guidance principles, theories, and methods and the ability to model those principles for university students and teachers. The successful candidate must meet eligibility requirement to work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment. Candidates must be able to communicate effectively in English. Preferred: Experience working in a NAEYC accredited preschool program; experience teaching a range of undergraduate child development courses including preschool curriculum; demonstrated knowledge of the research process and the ability to work cooperatively with university researchers on research projects; ability to maintain and administer a research data base.
SETTING:Auburn University is a land-grant institution located in Auburn, Alabama. It is Alabama’s largest institution of higher education with an enrollment of more than 24,000 students. Auburn is an hour from Montgomery, the state capital, one and one-half hours from Atlanta, Georgia, and about 4 hours from the Gulf coast.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for the continuing development, implementation, and evaluation of a model laboratory preschool program (accredited by NAEYC) in a university setting, including undergraduate and graduate student supervision, paid staff supervision, staff development, parent education, research program coordination, data archives management, community outreach, and professional involvement with NAEYC and/or its state/regional affiliates.

2. Post Doctoral Research Fellow
PostDoctoral Research Fellow: Twelve month limited term position in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies at Auburn University. Renewal of employment will depend upon satisfactory performance in the position and continued funding of DHHS contract. The Research Fellow will work with the Principal Investigator across two applied research projects focused on relationship dynamics among a diverse sample of nonmarried parents, married couples, and youth. Work will also include involvement with a mixed method study of ethnic minority stepfamily couples and adolescents. The emphasis of the work will be on planning, executing, and reporting on findings of the projects. A Ph.D. in Human Development and Family Studies or a closely related field is required. ABD applicants will be considered if degree requirements have been met. Additional requirements include training emphasizing couple relationships, and/or post-divorce/stepfamily development, and/or youth close relationships, expertise in latent variable modeling, strong writing skills, and the ability to communicate effectively in the English language. The selected candidate must be eligible to work in the US at the time of employment and continue working legally for the proposed duration of the appointment. Salary is $37,000. 3. Post Doctoral Research Fellow
Postdoctoral Research Fellow: The Child Development Laboratory at Auburn University has an opening for a two-year post-doctoral research fellowship to begin August 1, 2008 (earlier start date is negotiable). The fellow will work collaboratively with Dr. Mona El-Sheikh and her colleagues, graduate students, and staff in studying effects of family conflict on children’s physical and mental health, with a focus on psychophysiological and other biomarkers of stress, emotion regulation, and sleep. Data are currently available for three large, federally-funded, prospective longitudinal studies that include a high percentage of minority participants and multiple forms of assessment in the home and laboratory settings. Primary responsibilities of the fellow will include: 1) assist in data analysis and co-author manuscripts; 2) assist in preparation of grant applications. Training in the analysis of psychophysiological and salivary biomarker data will be provided. Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D. in psychology, human development and family studies, or a closely related field. Strong quantitative skills (e.g., expertise with SEM and multi-level modeling) are required, and experience with developmental psychopathology research is desirable. The successful candidate must meet eligibility requirements to work in the U.S. by the date of this appointment and continue to work legally for the proposed term of the appointment.
