At Auburn University's Marriage and Family Therapy Center, we recognize that first contact with a professional is often a difficult step. Sometimes taking the step to get help can be made easier when there is an idea of what to expect. This page is intended to provide the information you need to take that first step.

Q What is the Marriage and Family Therapy Center?
The Center is a marriage and family therapy training clinic that provides services to East Alabama residents. The clinic is staffed by Master's level therapists in training.
Therapy is carefully supervised to ensure that you receive the best professional treatment available. Your sessions may be observed by other therapists and supervisors. Also, we often videotape sessions. These tapes are handled with extreme care and are seen only by supervisors and therapists. Supervisors are clinical members of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.

Q Will anyone know we are coming to the Center?
Not unless you tell them. What goes on in sessions is a very private and confidential matter. Therapists are bound by ethics not to disclose information given them.

Q How long does therapy last?
Each session lasts approximately 50 minutes. People are different in the way they manage difficulties. Sessions may go on for several weeks or several months. Appointments are usually made on a weekly basis.

Q How do I make an appointment?
Simply call 844-4478 and tell the receptionist you wish to make an appointment. Basic information will be obtained from you and an appointment will be scheduled. Both daytime and evening appointments are usually available. However, please call between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to schedule your appointment. If you must change your appointment, please call at least 24 hours in advance. This will permit someone else to receive help during that hour.

Q Where is the Center located?
The MFT Center is located across the mall from Haley Center, next to the Auburn University Early Learning Center on the Auburn campus. We find that with the Center being housed in an older, two-story home style building, there is a comfortable atmosphere for both the clients and the therapists.
