CURRENT ISSUES IN HUMAN DEVELOPMENT AND FAMILY STUDIES. (3) Current issues facing families and children evaluated in light of scientific research findings.
HDFS 2000. MARRIAGE AND FAMILY IN A GLOBAL CONTEXT (3). An examination of marriage and family systems, including their interface with the broader sociocultural context.
HDFS 2010. LIFESPAN HUMAN DEVELOPMENT IN FAMILY CONTEXT (3). Human development within the context of the family and across the family life cycle with a focus on significant life transitions.
HDFS 2030. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND ETHICS (3). Appraising career potential, formulating a professional code of ethics, and exploring career options.
*HDFS 3010.CHILD DEVELOPMENT IN THE FAMILY. (3) Pr., HDFS 2010 or departmental approval. Social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development in early and middle childhood; special focus on family relationships.
*HDFS 3030. ADOLESCENT AND ADULT DEVELOPMENT IN THE FAMILY (3). Pr., HDFS 2010. Analysis of adolescent and adult development employing an ecological framework. Emphasis on family context and developmental outcomes.
HDFS 3040. HUMAN SEXUALITY OVER THE FAMILY LIFE CYCLE (3). Pr., HDFS 2000 or SOCY 1000 or PSYC 2010. Human sexuality from a life cycle perspective, emphasizing developmental, familial, and societal factors.
**HDFS 3060. PATTERNS OF FAMILY INTERACTION. (3) Pr., HDFS 2000. Examination of family process and interaction, emphasizing major conceptual frameworks of family development.
HDFS 3080. DEVELOPMENT OF INTERPERSONAL SKILLS (3). Pr., HDFS 2000. Examination of the competencies necessary for development of successful interpersonal relationships.

HDFS 3380. STUDY ABROAD OPPORTUNITIES FOR HUMAN SCIENCES (1). Exploration of study abroad opportunities for students interested in the International Minor in Human Sciences.

***HDFS 4300. FAMILY AND SOCIAL POLICY (3). Pr., HDFS 2020 and 3010 or 3030 or 3060. Examination and critique of social policies from a family perspective.
HDFS 4380. STUDY/TRAVEL IN HUMAN DEVELOPMENT AND FAMILY STUDIES (2-6). Pr., Human Sciences core and departmental approval. May be repeated for a maximum of 6 credits. Study or work in the United States or internationally.

HDFS 4670. PARENT EDUCATION (3). Pr., HDFS 2010. Principles of working with parents on individual and group bases.
**HDFS 4680. FAMILY IN CROSS-CULTURAL PERSPECTIVE (3). Pr., HDFS 2000. Examination of family function and diversity in cultures and family systems around the world.
HDFS 4700. GENDER ROLES AND CLOSE RELATIONSHIPS (3). Pr., HDFS 2000 or SOCY 1000 or PSYC 2010. Analysis of changing roles and their effects on romantic, marital, and parent-child relationships.
HDFS 4920. INTERNSHIP IN HUMAN DEVELOPMENT AND FAMILY STUDIES (8-12 hours). Pr., HDFS major; 2.0 GPA in required HDFS and Human Sciences core courses. Application must be submitted two semesters in advance. A computer and Internet access is required.
***HDFS 4950 ADVANCED SEMINAR (3). Pr., junior standing in HDFS. Topical seminar in HDFS. May be repeated 3 times. A. Advanced Research (requires 3.0 in HDFS); B. Child Development; C. Family Studies; D. Marriage and Family Therapy; E. Family Resource Management.
HDFS 4960. DIRECTED READINGS IN HUMAN DEVELOPMENT AND FAMILY STUDIES (1-3). Pr., departmental approval. Supervised readings in one or more topical areas. May be repeated for a maximum of 3 credits.
HDFS 4990. UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH AND STUDY (1-5). Pr., departmental approval. Directed research under faculty supervision. May be repeated for a maximum of 5 credits.
HDFS 4997. HONORS THESIS (2-6). Pr., membership in University Honor's Program; junior standing in HDFS. Research in specialized topics. May be repeated for a maximum of 6 credits.
Courses in bold are required of all HDFS undergraduate majors. Additional courses may be required as a prerequisite for specific internships. Please see the Internship WEB site for details.

** Majors musttake either 3060 or 4680.
***Majors must select one course from among 4200, 4300 and 4950.
Majors who are interested in completing requirements for the National Council on Family Relations Certified Family Life Educator also must take HDFS 3040, HDFS 4670, and HDFS 4300.
