Other Achievements

  • March 2006 Co-Investigator Alabama State Park Service Training Program Proposal ($47, 288.43).
  • March 2005: Assistant-Investigator Successful joint application to the Alabama Bureau of Travel and Tourism (ABTT) Satisfaction within Alabama State Tourism study ($53 699).
  • May 2002: Sponsorship of quantitative and qualitative PhD methodologies from Stena Line including cost of administration of large scale survey, postage and printing, hotel conference facilities, including refreshments, for three evenings, forty, 5 day return tickets for a car and four passengers for focus groups participants and payment to video taping for focus groups (worth approximately US $10,000).
  • June 2002: Successful application to Faculty of Business and Management Research Budget for funding to cover Optical Scanning of Survey work for PhD and transcription of Focus Groups (worth approximately $4000).
  • March 2001: Selected by the Training and Employment agency for a position in the Belfast Culinary Odyssey 2001 to the Association of Chefs Annual Conference in Rochester, New York. This was a benchmarking project aimed at identifying industry trends in the USA and then presenting these findings to the hospitality and tourism industry in Northern Ireland. This project had the backing of the Tourism, Training Trust and Marriott Hotels and Resorts. 100% funded.
  • Successfully awarded 100% EC funding (Training and Mobility for Researchers): Research position in the Sustainable Tourism in Northern Europe Work Group, within the Regional Development in Emerging and Disappearing Border Regions in Northern Europe summer school (University Umea at Haparanda, Sweden, August 1998).
  • August 1997: Research position in the Tourism Heritage and Attractions Work Group, within the Regional Development in Emerging and Disappearing Borders Under Dispute summer school  (University of Joensuu (Finland) / University of Ulster, Magee College August 1997).
