Answers to F.A.Q.s
  1. What is the best antivirus software, and where can I get it?
    Personally I like Norton and Mcafee about the same don't see a whole lot of differences. The university is currently using Sophos, and is avalible for free. So far Sophos has worked well. It has caught things that Mcafee missed or didn't see as a problem. http://www.auburn.edu/download
  2. Can I get Autocad on my laptop?
    Yes for pricing information (as of 6/3/2008) for AutoCAD 2008 14 month version is $154.95. AutoCAD 2009 13 month is $154.95. The 13 or 14 month means that the software will be good for that long and after that amount of time will have to be purchaseed again. College of Human Sciences is currently using AutoCAD 2008 this may change to 2009 during your tenure in the College.
  3. Buying a computer.
    Some of the more common questions about buying a computer. First question we get is what type or brand should I buy.
    I recommend the University as a resource for this. The brands that they offer discounts on are HERE.
    The next question we get is I don't know what to buy. This is a matching game. If you have more money to spend get the (recommended) system requirements. If you don't, just get the required.

    PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get the extended warranty. (at least two years, three would be much better.)
  4. Fixing Home/Student Computers
    Be very careful in this area. Some places here in town charge $85/hour even if they don't fix the cpu. See Walter and I for further recommendations. Also most computers can be fixed by simply updating the virus scan and running "Search and Destroy" or "Lavasoft's Ad-aware".
  5. How long do I keep my auburn e-mail address?
    You keep your Auburn e-mail address 2 semesters after you graduate.
  6. How much space do we get on CoHS H: drive?
    Each Undergraduate and Graduate student within the College of Human Sciences gets 1 Gb of space on the H: drive(CoHS server)
  7. System Requirements laptop computers.
    ALL HUMAN SCIENCES MAJORS ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE A LAPTOP COMPUTER
