International students must also complete a Statement of Finances Form from the Graduate School. This form certifies that a specific amount of money is available to support your education and living expenses. Because assistantships do not cover 100% of your expenses, graduate students offered an assistantship must also complete and submit this form. The Statement of Finances Form indicates that students will need a specified amount of money per year. Currently (August 2000), this amount was $26,250 per year for students not on an assistantship who are paying out-of-state tuition. Additional funds are needed if family members are brought with you to Auburn. In August 2000, an additional $2,600 was required for a spouse, and an additional $3,800 was needed for each dependent. Students offered an assistantship of at least 25% time pay in-state tuition and are required to document a total of $16,860 in available funds as of August 2000. The dollar amounts specified are subject to change and should be confirmed with the Graduate School.

Applicants are encouraged to submit the Statement of Finances Form with their application packet to the Graduate School. Even if an applicant is accepted into the department's graduate program, the Graduate School will NOT issue an official letter of admission to students who have not submitted this form. Without this letter of admission, the International Programs Office can not issue the I-20 form. To insure the most efficient handling of your application and to avoid delays in starting graduate school, send the Statement of Finances Form at the start of the application process.
