

To promote women's philanthropy as a means of enabling the College of Human Sciences at Auburn University to enhance human well-being and improve the quality of life worldwide.

The Women’s Philanthropy Board of the College of Human Sciences at Auburn University was organized in spring 2002. The group is led by an executive committee of outstanding female leaders in business and public service who are committed to inspiring, educating and enabling women to:
Develop their full leadership potential
Achieve independence as financial donors and decision-makers
Serve as mentors for future generations of philanthropists
Broaden the base of financial support for the College of Human Sciences

Each year, the Women’s Philanthropy Board hosts educational programs and seminars which enlighten participants about finances, mentoring, and philanthropy. This far, the WPB has hosted numerous Spring Symposia featuring keynote speakers including: Jean Chatzky, Jane Byrant Quinn, Candace Bahr and Ginita Wall, Janet Bodnar, Nancy Lopez, John Manley, David Bronner, Lauren Bush, Ellen Gustafson, Gene Dodaro, David Altig, and Burt White. WPB has also held numerous Fall Luncheons featuring guest speakers such as Alabama’s First Lady Patsy Riley, Nell Fortner, Truett Cathy, Alabama’s State Treasurer Kay Ivey, and Susan Story.
The Winter Board meeting is held each year and focuses on the business of the board and mentoring opportunities. In addition, WPB has hosted multiple roundtable discussions to highlight issues of financial and philanthropic concern. All of these activities are augmented by WPB funds.

Since its inception, the Women’s Philanthropy Board has awarded 15 WPB Annual Scholarships to CHS students totaling $77,000. These scholarships have been full tuition awards (5,000 each).
In addition, the Women’s Philanthropy Board has contributed $100,000 to the WPB Endowed Scholarship. To date, four CHS students have received full tuition, $5,000 scholarship from this endowment augmented by spendable funds.
The WPB has also awarded two scholarships for $5,000 each to students who seek to participate in the Joseph S. Bruno Auburn Abroad in Italy, the CHS Study abroad program in Arricia.
In 2008, the WPB awarded three CHS Graduate Student Thesis Awards totaling $6,000 and 2 CHS Honors Student Research Awards at $1,000 each.
The Women’s Philanthropy Board has granted 9 WPB Faculty Awards for $3,000 each to CHS faculty members who foster the mission of WPB through teaching, outreach, mentoring, and research.
The WPB has given $3,000 in grants to support efforts by the CHS Ambassador Program and the College’s honor society, Kappa Omicron Nu.
WPB recently granted $11,000 towards the College’s effort to recruit high school students to Auburn University’s College of Human Sciences.

An integral part of the Women’s Philanthropy Board mission is to serve as mentors for future generations of philanthropists.
