What has surprised you about being a graduate student?
How self-directed it is: no one schedules your progress, so time management becomes the real course. The learning pace is nonlinear, with lots of drafts, feedback, and small wins that add up. Community matters more than expected, and so do boundaries for rest and life. The biggest surprise is realizing that progress feels slow day to day but looks substantial when you zoom out.
