Black Alumna Award winner Alana Dillette is a former Auburn University student-athlete who came to the Plains for the swim program and stayed 11 years, as she completed her undergraduate and doctoral degrees in the College of Human Sciences’ Hotel and Restaurant Management program (now known as Hospitality Management). A successful professor and business owner, Dillette is sharing her story with Auburn.

Professor Francesca Adler-Baeder in Auburn’s College of Human Sciences knows healthy relationships. As principal investigator and project director for Alabama Healthy Marriage and Relationship Education Initiative (AHMREI) since 2001, she and her team, along with community agency partners, have conducted applied research across the state to prove that healthy relationships impact not just couples, but their families, work environments and the well-being of their communities. Now, the collection of studies, primarily funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Family Assistance, is primed to offer its service outreach model that teaches mindfulness and skills for healthy relationships for replication across the country as well.

Just outside of Rome, the 16th century Chigi Palace in Aricca, Italy, is renowned for safe-gurading Italian heritage, educating students — and for keeping secrets. Part museum, part residence and academic hall for the Joseph S. Bruno Auburn Abroad in Italy program (JSB), the Chigi Palace recently revealed a hidden staircase that makes it primed to expand the program to more Auburn students. With eager students patiently adding their names to a two-year waiting list for the program, the College of Human Sciences is launching a campaign to make the expansion a reality.
